Ladies and gentlemen welcome on board of Air Transat flight 522 to London. The runway is now cleared for take off. Please note the seat belt sign is now lit, so please ensure your belt is secured and your chair is in the upright position. Next stop: London
As a travel agent I get the opportunity to have all the information I need regarding any airline or supplier out there. I am even up to date with any upgrade, improvements or new releases. This was the first time going to London (except the 4 hour layover I had a few years back which was just enough to switch terminals in Heathrow). This time I was visiting London and was flying in to Gatwick as Air Transat had pretty much the best price out there (no, as a travel agent I don’t get to fly for free or with an 80% discount). Two year ago I went to Europe and had flown with Air Transat into Amsterdam and back from Brussels at the beginning of October and sadly wasn’t the best experience. Suffice to say I wasn’t too keen on flying with them again but they have direct flights to London and this was more of a last-minute vacation so I went ahead and booked it. I did know that since last year Air Transat are updating their aircrafts and they are installing touch screen in the back of each seat, the bulkhead will have a lot more space than before, the lighting was going to be better, overall you will have a better experience while flying for 7 or 8 hours (which let’s admit makes a big difference with the jet lag and all). But I am also aware that it takes a while to update an entire fleet and the completion is scheduled for sometime next year so you may or may not be in a new aircraft. Due to all the last-minute booking and the fact that I was working till the day of my departure I didn’t pay much attention when I did my online check in.
Imagine my surprise when I entered the aircraft and it was completely different to the last flight I had two years ago. I love the screens in the seats so I got pretty excited when I realized I was going to fly to London with a new Air Transat aircraft. Even with my past feelings towards the last experience, this turned out to be an amazing one. As you can imagine I have traveled quite a bit and with a lot of different airlines but I have to congratulate Air Transat. They have stepped it up and what a step that is. Those 7 hours went by so much quicker than ever before. The flight attendants were very pleasant and accommodating for absolutely everyone. No matter what the request was, they still kept a smile on their face.
The aircraft (from my perspective) is more spacious, the seats more comfortable than before and the movie selection is big enough to keep u entertained for 7h or even more. They even have games and cartoons and family movies to keep your little ones busy in case they don’t want to take a nap. On top of that children also get a little package that includes a coloring book with a changeable coloring tip pen, a booklet full of stickers, a little card and a snack. Now if you ever traveled with Air Transat and did not take advantage of the option plus I suggest you do next time. Yes, Option Plus costs but with it you will enjoy a Bottega champagne bottle (200 ml), a wine bottle (same size), you will be between the first people to make your meal choice and the best part is you get a comfort kit which includes a blanket, headphones, eye mask and a neck pillow. Honestly the Option Plus deserves every penny; not to mention the extra perks on baggage allowance, seat selection and much more. Now I want to make a disclaimer and tell you I am not being paid or offered anything by Air Transat to write all this. This is my opinion and my own experience and I will go so far to say that on my return flight the aircraft was not an updated one, but the service and experience were still great. I was not feeling so well due to a cold and probably even had a fever on my return flight and the staff were very attentive and accommodated me as much as possible.
Now don’t think that this is the only airline I stand behind, I do have a few preferred airlines depending on which part of the world I am flying to, but I have been pleasantly impressed. So two thumbs up for you Air Transat, you have done a great job, keep it! Can’t wait to see what’s in store for you in the near future.
